Jonathan Frakes is returning to Star Trek! Make it So!
Frakes, of course, played Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation and in several Trek films.
“Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery,” writer-producer Gretchen J. Berg told EW. “He’s a fantastic guy and great director.”
Added fellow showrunner Aaron Harberts: “Our cast is dying to work with him.”
Frakes is very experienced behind the camera, having helmed several episodes of TNG, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, as well as the Trek films First Contact and Insurrection. In addition, he’s directed episodes of several non-Trek titles such as Leverage, Burn Notice, and NCIS: Los Angeles. Berg and Harberts previously worked with Frakes when he directed five episodes of CBS’ Roswell.
Frakes will be directing an episode on Discovery, no news if this involves only one episode.
More leaks from Discovery, first looks at the new transporter room….
Above we see Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) preparing to beam down to … somewhere.
You’ll notice they’re wearing body armor (another interesting addition) and have old school The Original Series phasers at the ready. In the foreground on the left is the back of Lt. Saru (Doug Jones) a new form of alien in the Trek universe who plays a key role.
This particular transporter bay is aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou and it’s unlike any that Trek fans have ever seen before. So if you love this new design, great, it’s in the show. If you don’t, hold that thought, because the transporter bay in the U.S.S. Discovery is very different from this one (and has not yet been seen).
We have two close ups here, one shows ‘Combat uniform’ and the second shows the new gun…
Here it is, finally some news about the new starship U.S.S. Discovery…
We have the first picture of the Captain Gabriel Lorca on the Captain’s chair.
A steely Federation Starship Captain who’s considered a brilliant military tactician. The photo also gives the first hint of the bridge of the U.S.S. Discovery, which has not been revealed yet…. Captain Gabriel Lorca is played by Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter.

More news to follow….
The show is finally coming to Netflix in September, and will be shown in two halves..
Starting from Monday, September 25 on Netflix and Sunday, September 24 on CBS before moving to CBS All Access.
Interestingly, the first season will be split into two halves. According to showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg, the decision to split the opening season in half was purely a practical one.
“You can’t cut corners or have 95% of what’s on screen be completely original and inspired and then have five percent something you bought at a store,” Berg told Entertainment Weekly. “It has to be cohesive — and it is. I’m so proud of what’s on screen, it’s so beautiful and it’s taking world-building to a whole new level.”
For instance: The bridge of the U.S.S. Discovery. Trek fans think they already know what it looks like from the trailer. But that’s not it — the trailer shows the bridge of the U.S.S. Shenzhou — an entirely different (and older) ship than the Discovery that the production also had to build. The actual Discovery bridge has yet to be revealed…
The first eight episodes will run on Netflix from September 25 to November 6, with the second chapter to be shown from January 2018.
And is that the new Discovery ship in the poster, it does look cool…
